BUDGET TRAIL UTV
Same as with the budget ATVs, the budget-friendly UTVs are a very important segment for M. Joe Average. When you have a house, two vehicles, two to three kids and a significant other that is the family bean counter and you want to go out and ride a UTV. You need to find a way to make it happen.
If you want a little performance, you don’t have many choices under 15 grand, my friends.
This year’s pick in the Budget UTV category goes out to:
ARCTIC CAT (TEXTRON?) WILDCAT TRAIL (Base)
For the fifth year in a row, the Wildcat Trail is our pick for the best entry level low budget UTV. Why? It’s simply a homogenous mix of decent engine performance, reliability, handling and sporty looks. The steering geometry is so good that getting the power steering upgrade is luxury.
There’s always a catch though. Big and tall guys like me are a little cramped inside especially in the winter with the gear on. You can live with it, but you’ll envy your riding buddies with larger cabin space.
The other caveat is fit and finish. It’s well below average with lots of rattles and mechanical noises on a well-used unit. It’s been like that since day one but you will rarely visit your dealer for a mechanical issues excluding maintenance.
The best thing is the price! Don’t be fooled by MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price), they are almost always heavily discounted on the showroom floors. It’s not hard to find a base model under $10,000.
Arctic Cat does NOT list the Wildcat Trail in 2020 so get yourself an unsold 2018 or 2019 unit while there are still some in inventory, pricing should be even better!
The kitten UTV wins again!
